A two dimensional representation of data where values are represented in different colors. The "heat" need not have anything to do with thermal data, and a heat map overlayed on a city map can be used as a crime analysis and prevention tool. Heat maps are also used for WiFi site surveys. The term "heatmap" as one word is a trademark in a financial analysis application.
