Glossary Term:
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design

A theory that certain design principles can create a climate of safety in a physical location. CPTED is based on four principles: natural access control, natural surveillance, territoriality, and maintenance. The National Crime Prevention Council offers CPTED courses.
